Last Thursday, Cynthia Nixon, the former Sex and the City star running as a Democrat in the New York gubernatorial race, called U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a “Terrorist Organization.”
She was speaking at St. Paul and St. Andrew United Methodist Church in New York City to supporters. She spoke in support of an undocumented Guatemalan mother of two “American” children who she is deeply concerned will be deported under the Trump administration.
She said, “It is supposed to be here to keep Americans safe but what it has turned into, frankly, is a terrorist organization of its own that is terrorizing people who are coming to this country.” With a quote like that, one can clearly see what an out of touch coastal elite Nixon is. She does not view the people of ICE as people just doing their difficult, and very often, dangerous jobs of enforcing our immigration laws.

“ICE is a terrorist organization, and its egomaniacal leader is Donald Trump,” she later tweeted and launched an “Abolish ICE” petition, in which the petition’s website reads “It’s time to Abolish ICE. There are so many steps between where we are now and a fair immigration system. But this is the first step: Sign my petition to say you agree we must abolish ICE and do everything possible to shield New York families from Trump’s rogue immigration agents.“
According to the Washington Examiner, 70% of Americans support Trump’s immigration policies, and on top of that, 76% want more ICE agents.
This extreme rhetoric comes as Nixon tries to run to the left of governor Andrew Cuomo. As Joe Crowley’s loss shows, the far-left of the Democratic base is coming back to bite the establishment. These ideas may be far out of the mainstream of American society at large, but they are alive and well within the increasingly unhinged Democratic Party.
More calls for ICE to disappear will continue to be shot out from the far left, Blue Check twitters, Late Night TV hosts, and the like. Nixon will be far from the last political candidate to do so. The Democrat establishment will try to keep these far left ideas from taking over the party, but after years of cultivating an anti-American, open orders base, the party is reaping what it has sown.
