In 2016, an unopposed bipartisan group led by GOP Rep. Tom Marino, a man who was both a member of Trump’s transition team and was briefly named Trump’s drug czar before pulling his own nomination, led the passage of a bill via unanimous consent, stripping the DEA of its ability to seize opioid shipments from major pharmaceutical companies suspected of being trafficked for illegal sale.
The DEA initially opposed earlier attempts to pass the bill until Chuck Rosenberg was appointed as acting DEA administrator. Not a single member of Congress voted against it. Obama signed it into law and never commented on it publicly. Neither has anyone else.
